Committee Membership


  • providing support and guidance to the Headteacher on all matters relating to the school premises and grounds, security and health and safety.
  • ensuring that the premises and grounds are inspected termly and a statement of priorities for maintenance and development is presented for the approval of the Governing Body.
  • approving the costs and arrangements for maintenance, repairs and redecoration within the budget allocation.
  • overseeing the preparation and implementation of contracts.
  • ensuring that the school complies with health and safety regulations.
  • ensuring the governors’ responsibilities are discharged regarding litter under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
  • preparing a lettings & charges policy for the approval of the Governing Body.
  • ensuring any necessary liaison with the local authority’s Environment & Education Services Departments


  • assisting the Headteacher in promoting good relationships with parents and the community.
  • assisting the Headteacher in recruiting the support and involvement of business and industry.
  • assisting in preparing the school prospectus for approval by the Governing Body.

The STAFFING SUB-COMMITTEE is responsible for:

  • keeping under review the policies and procedure in relation to:

- staffing

- discipline

- capability

- grievance

- leave of absence

  • ensuring that staff are regularly consulted about the above policies and procedures and any other personnel issues affecting the whole school.
  • liaising with the Finance Committee to establish the annual and longer-term salary budgets and other costs relating to personnel e.g. training.
  • reviewing the staffing structure whenever a vacancy occurs and at least annually in relation to the School Improvement Plan within a financial context.


  • ensuring the production, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and practices concerning:

- Teaching and learning

- School improvement planning

- Raising standards and to make recommendations concerning these policies and practices to the governing Body with regard to the National Curriculum, Special Educational Needs Code of Practice and other National and LEA requirements.

  • receiving written and oral reports from curriculum leaders and faculty teams and governors with special responsibilities e.g. Special Educational Needs.
  • ensuring that curriculum principals and policies are communicated and discussed with parents/carers on a regular basis.

The FINANCE & STRATEGY SUB-COMMITTEE is responsible for:


  • providing guidance and assistance to the Headteacher and the governing body in all matters relating to budgeting and finance.
  • drawing up and review financial policy statements including consideration of long term planning and resourcing.
  • giving consideration to the School Improvement Plan and present an annual budget to the governing body for approval.
  • monitoring the income and expenditure of the schools budget and report the financial situation to the governing body each term.
  • recommending the level of delegation to the Headteacher for the day to day financial management of the school.
  • viring funds, if necessary, within limits set by the governing body.
  • receiving and where appropriate respond to periodic audit reports.


  • discussing issues raised by the other sub-committees and consider any financial implications.
  • making recommendations to the full governing body.
  • ensuring that the governors play a full part in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the School Improvement Plan

The PAY REVIEW SUB-COMMITTEE is responsible for:

  • achieving the aims of the whole school Pay Policy in a fair and equal manner.
  • applying the criteria set by the whole school Pay Policy in determining the pay of each member of staff at the annual review.
  • observing all statutory and contractual obligations.
  • minuting clearly the reasons for all decisions and report the fact of these decisions to the next meeting of the full Governing Body.
  • recommending to the Governing Body the annual budget needed for pay, bearing in mind the need to ensure the availability of monies to support any exercise of pay discretion.
  • keeping abreast of relevant developments and to advise the Governing Body when the school’s Pay Policy needs to be revised.
  • working with the head in ensuring that the Governing Body complies with the Appraisal Regulations 2012 (teachers).
