Physical Education
Physical Education at Glebe Primary SchoolPhysical Education is an important part of the curriculum that provides opportunities for children to develop socially, physically and encourages them to live and lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. At Glebe, we provide pupils with a wealth of opportunities to become physically active and to develop a range of fundamental skills, that can be applied in many situations as they progress throughout the school. Team work and sportsmanship are also fundamental principles that are taught from an early age which allow pupils to develop socially including their understanding of fair play. |

Intra - House CompetitionsIntra House competitions encourage pupils to take part in and experience competitive sport. Throughout the year we run a variety of competitions in a range of sports which all pupils have the opportunity to compete in and earn points for their house teams. These include sports such as, athletics, football, netball, hockey, basketball, gymnastics and tag rugby. Pupils earn points for their house teams throughout the year in various team competitions which end during Fun and Fitness Week when the house trophies are awarded to the winning teams. |
Local competitions (Inter Competitions)There are many local and borough competitions in a variety of sports that we enter throughout the year. These include events such as cross country, football, athletics, basketball, rounders, cricket, netball gymnastics and dance. Pupils from different year groups across the school are given opportunities to attend these events. These competitions against other schools provide our pupils with invaluable experiences in competitive sport and allow them to showcase their skills and talents against other children in the borough. |

Sport LeadersWhen pupils reach Year 5 they are encouraged to apply for a Sports Leader role. They are given the opportunity to explain why they think they are a suitable candidate in promoting physical education, sport and how they will encourage children to be physically active whilst at school. Sports Leaders provide an important role in many aspects of the P.E. curriculum. They encourage pupils to take part in physical activities at break times and at lunch times, often promoting the learning of fundamental skills with children in the Infant School. They also help to organise, referee and manage Intra House competitions, and try to engage less active pupils in fun, physical activities. |
The Daily MileWe are proud to be one of over 10,000 schools across 72 countries that are taking part in The Daily Mile initiative. The Daily Mile is simple and free and gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom. |
